Introduction

A lead alloy commonly used to make lead-acid storage battery terminals is composed of 2.75-3.25% antimony, 0.05-0.20% arsenic, 0.15-0.40% tin, 400-600 ppm copper, less than 30 ppm sulfur and less than 20 ppm selenium.

The internal workings of a battery are typically housed within a metal or plastic case. Inside this case are a cathode, which connects to the positive terminal, and an anode, which connects to the negative terminal.

The most popular sizes of sealed lead acid batteries (SLA), also known as valve-regulated lead acid batteries (VRLA), such as those batteries installed in UPS systems, use the Faston terminal type. However, some of the larger lead acid batteries use insert terminals. These batteries are mainly used for industrial applications, such as solar projects and telecom projects.
